Clare Callahan, Director
|
|
|
Chair, Classical Guitar Studies
at CCM, a program she founded in 1972. A student of Bibobi (England), Papas
(US), and Segovia (Spain), she was a scholarship winner to Musica en Compostela.
She has served on the Board of Directors of the Guitar Foundation of America,
the American String Teachers Association Guitar Division, and the Solo Recitalists
Panel of the National Endowment for the Arts. She is a clinician for ASTA,
MENC, MTNA, and the Suzuki Association. An Area Chamber Artist with the Cincinnati
Symphony Orchestra and teacher whose students have won major awards, Prof.
Callahan is a frequent competition juror, guest lecturer and teacher. In
2005, she received the Ernest Glover Award for Outstanding Teaching at CCM.

Faculty, CCM Early Music Lab and Preparatory Department. Previous faculty
Appointments at University of South Carolina, St. Louis Conservatory of Music,
University of Kentucky. Performer also on lute, archlute, vihuela, and baroque
guitar. Member, Mano y Arco (baroque improv and continuo ensemble), Apollo’s
Cabinet, and the Stucky-Henderson Duo (guitar and voice). Concerts with the
Vocal Arts Ensemble, Dayton Bach Society, and Hickory Hill Chamber Players.
Performances at the Ecole Normale de Musique and the Conservatoire Superieur
in Paris, France, as well as throughout the U.S. Broadcasts NPR, recording
for Vienna Modern Masters and Fleur de Son Classics. Voice/guitar arrangements
published by Southern Music and “Guitar for the Young” published by Les Productions d’OZ.

Stanley Yates |
|
|
Chair, Classical Guitar Department
at Austin Peay State University. Award-winning recitalist in Europe and America
(Dame Myra Hess Award, London, 1986; GFA Competition, 1990). Guest lecturer
and teacher at festivals, universities, colleges throughout England, Canada,
and USA. Editor of numerous publications for Mel Bay (the Stanley Yates
Series) including “Guitar Music of Stepan Rak,” “ Isaac Albeniz Pieces for
Guitar,” “ Bach Six Cello Suites,” "Method for Guitar," and several collections of his own compositions.
Recordings: San Francisco, Nashville, St. Louis (Mel Bay).

Faculty, Otterbein College.
A composer and arranger, Karl is featured in New Music festivals. Active
as soloist and chamber musician. Performances broadcast on NPR. Versatile
session player. Member of several mainstream ensemble groups (including a
Celtic Band) in Columbus, OH area. Has longstanding private studio. Degrees
from University of South Carolina and the Cleveland Institute of Music. Major
teachers: Christopher Berg, John Holmquist, Julian Gray.

Faculty, University of Minnesota. Established recitalist whose appearances
include Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall (London), plus many NPR broadcasts
and recordings. Has premiered over fifty works for guitar, including four
concertos. Has held appointments with Affiliate Artists and Young Audiences.
Active composer/arranger with Walton, Plymouth, Boosey and Hawkes, Foster
and Hal Leonard publications. Respected teacher and adjudicator whose students
have won major awards and forged successful careers. Member of the Hill House
Chamber Ensemble in St. Paul and the Van/Dixon Guitar Duo.

Robert Mercer. Former faculty at the University of Louisville and

Clare Callahan, MM degree from Yale University with Benjamin
Verdery and Robert Guthrie (winner of the Harriet Fox Memorial
Prize and a Charles H. Ditson Scholarship). Performer’s Certificate
from the Conservatorio Oscar Espla in Alicante, Spain with José Tomás.
International concerts in Spain and England. Concerto performances
with the Cordoba Symphonic Orchestra (Spain), the Rome Festival
Orchestra (Italy), and the Huntington Chamber Orchestra in West
Virginia. Guitarist with the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra (Carmen
DeLeone, conductor) and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
